What Do You Think of the Django Unchained Trailer?

Posted by on Wed, Jun 6, 2012 at 12:33 PM

Bleeding Cool found the trailer for the new Quentin Tarantino movie Django Unchained. Unless the film studio has taken its vengeance on blogs for daring to promote their film on a schedule not entirely of their choosing, you can watch it below:

UPDATE 4:45 pm: Changed to the YouTube version of the trailer because it's less crashy.

Can someone explain "film-nerd racism"?

@1: I wondered that, too. Maybe it's for all the white folks who can't watch any depiction of black people that isn't hagiography without pre-emptively screaming racism, you know, just in case.

They've already replaced it with an animated logo for something called "springboard". That's fine, I wasn't too interested anyway.

I got a commercial for a straight to video flick called "Monster Brawl". And I'm pretty excited about that. Also, I'm glad to see Dave Foley getting some work.

Quentin Tarantino is like a stock that IPO'd in 1994 and that has declined in value ever since.

Looks awful. I'll make a note to miss it, thanks for the heads up.

This is making PTA's upcoming film look all the more better.

I just finished reading The Sisters Brothers and think I'd rather see that turned into a film than Django Unchained.

Note that the original 1966 Django spaghetti Western film is available on Blu-ray; I recently rented it from Scarecrow and thought that the HD transfer looks amazing! There is definitely some grain, but its from the original film they used.

Bah. Got my hopes up over nothing. Since BC pulled it, I shouldn't vote. But I'm the biggest QT fan in South Carolina, so I'm sure I'll be there opening night.

dont you think "douche" is a little over used these days? apparently not.

Huh. There's an interesting evenness in the poll on this one. I like the explicit throwback to blaxploitation; we'll see how it plays out as a whole. But it looks like a fairly typical Quentin Tarantino film to me.

Is this part of the national discussion about racism?

Looks like he took the outline to Inglorious Basterds and substituted blacks and racists for Jews and Nazis. Even so, I can't wait for this.

@5 - you're nuts. Kill Bill 1 is easily as good as anything prior, and IB is better still. Disclaimer: revenge is my favorite genre; I'm not as keen on the "random fucked-up situations strung together" genre. (E.g., Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs.)

I'm all for good ironic blaxploitation parody. This has real possibilities.

After all that we've been subjected to over the past weeks, isn't anyone else sick-to-death of gun homicide as entertainment? I can't fucking deal.

I never thought Inglorious Basterds had any appeal to me either, and in parts, it was 'meh', but in any scene with Christoph Waltz was as gripping, chilling, humerous, and wonderful as any other Tarantino scene I can think of, so I have to give Tarantino the benefit of the doubt...at first hearing of the concept, this movie didn't have any appeal for me either, but I hope to be surprised again...

Wow didn't expect the Stranger community to have such a strong distaste for Tarantino, not that the trailer's anything remarkable but the only major complaint I have is that it seems like pretty run of the mill QT. I'm not going to write it off but if there's going to be a movie where his formula runs think this is a strong contender. But seriously @5 you'd have to be pretty cynical to not see the Kill Bills or Basterds as some of the more pleasurable movies of the decade.
