Shut Down! Mayuri in Bellevue

Posted by on Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 10:41 AM

From King County Public Health:

Mayuri Indian Cuisine located at 15400 NE 20th St #6, Bellevue, WA 98007 was closed by a Public Health food inspector on July 12, 2012 at 12:15 pm for the following violations:

· Potentially hazardous foods at unsafe temperatures
· Improper cooling of potentially hazardous food
· Inadequate facilities to control temperature of potentially hazardous food, cold holding
· Poor personal hygiene practices
· Handwashing facilities inaccessible
· Failure to correct repeated violations
· Active foodborne illness outbreak

Bolds indicate the more alarming violations here. Slog's friend Fnarf loves the dosas at the Bothell branch of Mayuri (still, Fnarf, right?).

You may find out when Mayuri in Bellevue reopens here.

I go to the Bothell branch, on occasion, too. Would be a shame to find out they had the same sanitation issues.

Good thing it wasn't for lightning strikes.

By the way, great food at Brouwer's last night, but $7 for a six ounce cider is a bit much when you can get a pitcher of cider for only $6 at both The Dubliner and the Red Door just a block or two away ... that was a comment I heard a lot from everyone.

Repeat violations? They shouldn't be allowed to reopen.

When a Denver reporter (who's name I forget) used to do weekly reports about poor health inspections, he would always stress that if the restaurant was part of a chain, the report meant only that location.

@2 Will, ciders come in a range of quality. you had the Sea Cider from BC, super high end cider, there's no way you'd compare it to whatever cheap-ass cider you'd get at the Dubliner.

@3 they shouldn't be closed down. Just forced to have a letter grade posted on the front of the building. Let the consumer decide if they want to eat there. I hate the babying of people's eating habits.

@6,
Unless it causes public health problems.

If someone gets hepatitis from eating food that has some of the cook's shit inside it due to poor hygiene, and then passes that hepatitis along to anyone he or she fucks later, that's not good.

ยท Failure to correct repeated violations

That, especially along with the other violations, means I'm done with that restaurant.

@5, Will thinks that all ciders come from a spigot labeled "cider" that connects to a big central tank at the center of the earth.

I haven't been back to Mayuri in ages, I should go. It was really good.

I was last at the Bellevue Mayuri a couple of years ago with friends, and it was obvious that the quality had gone downhill fast. (One of the guests had also complained about bathroom access at that time as well, which I had passed off mentally due to possible customers who weren't customers in fact, save to use said bathroom.)

Since that disappointment, my basic Indian-for-lunch-in-Bellevue needs are typically met by Taj Palace on 140th NE, just past the 520 overpass. The buffet is slightly smaller than that at Mayuri, but the quality is higher, most especially their vegetarian dishes, for which I, a meat-eater, always save a portion of my plate.

My two bits....

@9: That idea is patent pending, thank you very much, and if you mention it again on a public forum, you will be getting a cease and desist from my attorneys.

Will Sea cider is fantastic shit, get thee up to BC for a bottle of their Rum Runner (aka Prohibition) or see Morgan at The Beer Junction for a bottle (unless you'd rather drink swill such as strongbow).

@14 by 'ice cider' do you mean apple jack? Apple brandy made by cold distillation?

@16, are you really asking Will what he means by something he said? You must be new. He means "herp derp" no matter what the words say.

@17 Oh, I'm fully aware of Will. I'm just oddly fascinated by his response to this world.

Mayuri in Bellevue used to have some of the best Indian food in the area. But that was a few years ago.

The place has not gone downhill fast. It started out downhill. I took my family there when it was quite new, and my daughter projectile-vomited about 20 minutes into the meal. The food was bland, greasy, and overall terrible. This place sucked worse than all the Microsoft employees that ate there, and that is saying quite a lot!

Totally support the shut down!! Couple of years back when I visited Mayuri, one of the cook cum waiter used the ladies restroom , changed his socks and left without washign his hands. When I complained, the management apologise and the waiter left shouting loudly. I refuse to eat at such a plac and think its hazardous for the people at large. The woman at the counter is so loud and shouts at the top of her voice spoiling the entire experience of dinner. Thank goodness its gone!
