- BEE COLLECTIVE
In a park in the Netherlands, Bee Collective is trying out a new idea for urban beekeeping. Putting the bees up high.
The first Sky Hive prototype was placed in the Sphinxpark Maastricht. The 7 meter long object makes beekeeping possible and visible in public urban areas, with the aim to attract a new generation of beekeepers. New beekeepers are necessary because honeybees have been dying in large numbers the last years, and there are less and less beekeepers.
It's a great idea. Lots of cities, such as Los Angeles, do not allow beekeeping in residential areas. This could help allay people's fears about cohabiting with bees.
A couple more photos after the jump.
