You have two days left to luxuriate in Louder than bombs, the fireworks-of-paintings show at Platform Gallery through July 28. The two artists are Marie Koetje of Portland and Mark Schoening of LA. Both make light, bright abstractions. His paintings are tight, resin-encased portraits of atomization—something that once was quite solid, maybe even monolithic, has just been blown to smithereens, and the tiny but equally solid smithereens are begging to be read. It's a little as if the words had all been blown off the pages of newspapers into the sky. Koetje's softer, warmer aesthetic feels like an animation, where slightly addled shapes shuffle around of their own volition.
