More out of curiosity than cheapness, I mailed my ballot without a stamp.

Last year in our "Back to School Guide," I implored college students to fucking vote:

All it takes to vote in Washington State is five minutes, a pen, and a first-class stamp. And the stamp is optional. King County Elections doesn't advertise it, but the Postal Service is instructed to deliver ballots postage due. Shhh. Don't tell anyone.

Advice which resulted in an angry email from a reader who mailed his ballot without a stamp, and had it returned. Oops.

At our Secretary of State SECB interview I asked Thurston County Auditor Kim Wyman about this, and she confirmed that yes, it is the policy in her county to accept ballots postage due, but that sometimes the postal service doesn't comply. But, you know, if there's no return address.... Shhh. Don't tell anyone.

So as a service to readers and in the interest of science (and because I didn't have a stamp on me and didn't feel like waiting in line for one at the post office) I decided to test this out for myself. I deposited my ballot today as pictured above. No return address. No stamp. Dominic's ballot, deposited simultaneously and fully adorned, will serve as the control subject.

I'll report back with the results of this very important experiment.
