The Ladies McKenna Tries to Woo the Ladies with "Chicks for Rob" Button Design

GOP gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna is asking supporters today to vote for their favorite new campaign button design. "The button with the most shares by the end of today will become our next official campaign team button!" the McKenna campaign Facebook page says. And here's one of them:

Chicks for Rob! As the page makes clear, McKenna's campaign isn't appealing to infant Republican chickens, they're trying to rally the lady vote.

“Washington State has a long history of empowering its female leaders," the campaign says in explaining the woman-empowering button design. "They are our business executives, our philanthropists, our software engineers, and our elected officials. Undoubtedly, women will play a key role in implementing my New Direction for Washington State plan."

Currently it has only one share. I can't imagine why more of "our business executives, our philanthropists, our software engineers, and our elected officials" don't want to be a Chick for Rob. Because, as the campaign points out, women across the state are standing with Rob and they even have an online coop just for him. Vote for Chicks for Rob here.

This is second only to the McKenna campaign's excellent outreach to elderly and Asian American voters.

The "Rob's 4 Jobs" one is also pretty unfortunate, considering some of Mr. McKenna's recent remarks.

Indeed. And my great-grandmother, Jeanette Testu (the one on the right, who isn't Jackie Kennedy http://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset-Viewer/A…) is one of the empowered female leaders of Washington history and I'm very proud of her and what she accomplished for the working families of Washington State.

No goddamn way she'd wear that pin.

This can't be real. I am thinking 2 thinks (shout out to Dr. Seuss). 1. Either they have information that leads them to believe that Republican women are not the horribly feminist type, or 2. They are completely stupid. Either way, offended...

Westello, women were called chicks in the supposedly egalitarian 70s, when no one was getting married because it was too traditional and kids were being dressed in genderless clothes. Women have been called chicks since then. Things have not gotten that much better, especially in the Republican world.

@2 Thanks for sharing that. This state indeed has a wonderful tradition of women in leadership positions. It's one of the many reasons that makes this a great place to live.

Anyone else have stories of Washington "chicks" who lead, rather than follow geeks like McKenna?

Kathleen is the only democratic woman running for any of WA's 9 state executive offices this year.
In 1992, Kathleen was the youngest woman (32 years old) to be elected WA State Senator. She beat Dino Rossi. She's also the only democrat to ever win in the 5th LD... Hopefully that will change this year!

Oh, oh! Just remember the last time we fell for a "pink slogan" that proved to be working against women and for the repub/tparty that has spent more time legislating women's sexuality than any other issue. Didn't the tea party campaign on JOBS? And they've done nothing on that issue but throw poison pills at any bill that would open employment. Same here, with this pink gimmick. The repub/tparty has already shown their disdain for women, legislating horrendously against women's privates. How dare they. The women who fought for our voting rights are turning in their graves that we're letting the repub/tparty throw these laws in our way. It's not an issue of abortion, pro or con, it's an issue of CHOICE. Note that they don't call it as it is but use 'abortion' as their path to getting us in a dither. The issue is CHOICE, nothing else but CHOICE. If they get in, how many of us will suffer at their hands.
