Melrose Market Street Festival—promising “music, food, and social justice!”—is this Sunday! It’s free and good for Seattle. And Washington. And the world.

The music is presented by Music for Marriage Equality, part of the campaign working to approve Referendum 74 this fall, thereby allowing same-sex couples to marry. As Dominic Holden said in June, M.M.E. is "as if all the gay-lovin' enthusiasm of every PFLAG mom in America ha[s] been concentrated into a superconductor of Seattle music-industry titans."

Artists who will be performing on Sunday on the street outside Melrose Market include Fresh Espresso—a glam hiphop duo comprised of Rik Rude and P Smoov, who make sounds ranging from beat poetry to old school rap; The Rachels; The Less Than Equals; and some Guests who will be a Surprise.

The food is provided by Sitka & Spruce (local farm-fresh foods), Rain Shadow Meats (lovingly hand-selected meats from nice farms), Homegrown (local/organic/sustainable sandwiches), Calf & Kid (artisan cheese shop), Terra Plata (local food, so local some of it comes from the garden on the roof), and Taylor Shellfish (fish that have shells brought from farms located around Washington).

There will be a beer garden that benefits TeenFeed, a community-based, volunteer-fueled organization providing basic needs for homeless youth in Seattle. Teens/youth, however, will not be allowed in the beer garden.
