"We have literally slapped the face of...the Lord Jesus"

Posted by on Mon, Sep 17, 2012 at 4:27 PM

Right Wing Watch brings this crime against language from an interview with Vision America bigot Rick Scaroborough talking about gay marriage:

Well, we have literally slapped the face of the only hope we have and that is the Lord Jesus...Had you twenty years ago said homosexuality would become commonplace, people would have said you were crazy. If you'd have said five years ago we would legalize homosexual unions and homosexual activity in our military, people would have said no way. But now all of those things are the norm and you and I and what we believe are becoming increasingly marginalized and soon we will be imprisoned if this trend continues.

First off: Not literally. Second of all, it's refreshing to hear a bigot admit that he's losing, isn't it?

How can one "literally" slap the face of someone who doesn't exist? There's NO FACE TO SLAP. Bigots is so stoopid.

What is the sound of no face being slapped?

This is tantamount to saying that the U.S. Constitution isn't worth the paper (parchment?) it's written on.

I think it's terribly funny that Hate Inc. was so confident as late as 2007 that "no way" marriage equality was going to happen even though it's been a going concern in Massachusetts since 2004. And that "people would have said you were crazy" to say that gay people were going to become "commonplace" all the way back in 1992. Love to play that back for him in ten years or so, when peeps like him aren't in prison and the world is a lot more awesome.

I look at this as more self-pitying drivel from the self-pity experts: bigots & christians. They're always years, decades, if not centuries behind the zeitgeist, so their confusion and dismay comes as no surprise. This douchenozzle is only using his sudden realization to further his own ends: self-pity victimization.

In prison? Puh-leaze. He wishes.

It's funny how different the Jesus he worships is from the Jesus so many people I know worship. In that their Jesus wouldn't give a damn where someone put their penis, as long as there was mutual love behind it.

Yesterday my UCC church voted to support marriage equality and encourage all our members and friends to vote in favor of R-74. Our facebook page has a photo of many of us holding the "I Do" sign from the Seattle Times:

We are "free-range Christians" and plan to stay that way!

Trying to read that shit is like trying to sleep in the back of a pickup truck on a washboarded, pothole ridden, gravel road during a rainstorm...and there's sand in the pickup bed blowing in your eyes.

#1 YEAH, you ask the right question. It's the HETERO-FOLK that have slapped Jesus in the face, Not the Homo-folk let's be clear on that.

So they found his body! The Catholics will be pleased. More body parts to enshrine, right? Too bad they slapped it, though.

This reminds me of that video recently linked on Slog of Rick Santorum bemoaning the fact that anti-gay bigotry would never be mainstream. I'm no expert, but I give most of the credit for this to television, specifically gay television characters and personalities, because they presented gays and lesbians (transgendered and bisexuals folks would come later) as regular people, far from the scary caricatures they'd grown up with. It's hard to condemn someone you know, or know about.

Oh sure - they make a big deal about how we slapped him, but there's no mention of how he got off on it.

Typical.

Is "slapping Jesus" similar to "spanking the monkey""?

I can't help but hear a note of desperate hope in this, when he talks about being punished and persecuted. It's been so, so many centuries since Christians had any actual persecution to be self-righteous about. I'm sure that dingbats like this would like nothing better than the opportunity to be virtuous without actually having to do anything.

It is literally written in each of the four Gospels:
They may say, "But I have never slapped your face, Lord." But I tell you, whosoever among you shall legalize homosexual activity in the military, truly, you have slapped my face.

Jesus was single man in his thirties living with a bunch of other unmarried men. Sounds more like a lot of ass slapping was going on.

@24, While not commonly held, there's nothing in Scripture to contradict the belief that when Jesus said, "Love one another as I have loved you" there followed a big gay orgy with all sorts of apostolic gyrations and cries of pure joy.

Oh my god, that "gayroller" joke/picture in the linked Oatmeal comic is hilarious. I literally laughed out loud.

@25 You assume those quotes are true. I don't believe a single one. The bible is filled with lies and fantasies. And gay people were around long before the bible.
