Group Health Cooperative’s 11-member Board of Trustees has voted to support R-74, which would uphold Senate Bill 6239, allowing civil marriage for same-sex couples. The board stated that creating a welcoming environment for all our patients is an important aspect of creating equal access to care.
I'm not in love with every aspect of Group Health, but I do love this. Group Health has 400,000 patients in the Pacific Northwest. And we'd never see this sort of advocacy from their counterparts at most of the hospitals around here—because most of the hospitals around here are being taken over by anti-gay, anti-choice Catholics.
