This Ohio-centric Obama Ad Is Positively Brutal

Posted by on Fri, Oct 19, 2012 at 2:50 PM

Before the internet, we didn't have access to presidential campaigns' regional advertising unless it made the evening news. Now, it's all pretty much always available everywhere immediately. This ad demonstrates why President Obama's polls have been so strong, relatively speaking, in Ohio pretty much all summer and fall:

That bit where the woman puts words in Romney's mouth is just a tiny blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but it's so important to the makeup of the ad.

Thank goodness that President Obama's campaign and the SuperPacs which support him have enough money to create hard hitting ads. Remember when Obama supporters thought Romney would have an ad advantage because of the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling?

We were wrong. At least for this Election.

We're not wrong on the money. Romney and his PAC's have clearly raised more. Democrats have an advantage though. Campaigns get a discount on ad buys compared to the PAC's so if they Obama campaign raises more money that Romney's campaign, they can buy more of the cheap advertisements. The other fact is that Democrats tend to work cheaper. There are more volunteers and more people working at lower pay. Republican PAC's often seem like ways for Republican hacks to draw large salaries. You can beat numbers with better efficiency.

Conservative super PAC money has moved down ticket to the state, senate, congress and local levels.

There they plan to continue their current program of obstructionism, gerrymandering, voter suppression, women and minority suppression, and trying to turn America into a North Korean-like one party state.

Ohio IS brutal. One of my close friends, who lives in a fairly nice suburb of Cleveland, got screamed at this morning for the Obama/Biden sign in his front yard - and he only put it up yesterday. (Based on 2008, he's probably going to have to replace it a couple of times before Election Day.)

I believe that the historical narrative will tell that writing that editorial lost Romney the election.

I hoped they were saving the best for last.

If only we could throw the homostupid "Supreme Ruler of the Universe" and the resident house faggot with the dead of AIDS boyfriend into that ugly dark pit with him.

Oh and Patricia (@1) please go fuck yourself to death--literally.

@6 - I don't want you on my team. You don't have to join Bailo, but you can't stay here.

@7 EAT ME.

Whatever made you think I was on your team?

You see this is one of the biggest mistakes ever--that gays and lesbians or liberals or non-white hetero or non-minority individuals could or should be better than their oppressors. No, sadly, to fight fire sometimes you have to use fire. It ain't pretty and it certainly ain't for the fey.
Get over yourself Mary!

@8 - Not to speak for him but it probably has little to do with your attitude as much as... it appears you've come unhinged. I don't know all his hopes and dreams, but if he's anything like me, it does not involve being made into a lampshade when my allies go off their meds.

Looks like Mark has had a tad too much champagne tonight. Oh well, it's Friday. What the hell.

Yeah, that lampshade thing sounds bad. Let's avoid making me into a lampshade.

Unhinged is a very good word. And we'll leave it at that for tonite.

@10 is a good man and unfortunately or fortunately knows me fairly well.

I mailed my ballot this morning, hoped for the best, and sent in my last Obama donation. Win or lose, I'll just be happy when it is all over. Seriously, it feels like these things get more brutal every time.
