A Quick Message from the R-74 Campaign

Posted by on Fri, Nov 2, 2012 at 4:28 PM

From the pixels-tubes:

Brendan,

In a few hours, I have to tell Zach whether we raised enough money today to get our TV ads into Sunday prime-time or not.

We’re sooooo close.

We need to raise another $5,663 by 5 p.m. to make sure we get into those crucial Sunday conversations before Election Day.

Please contribute $3 now and help us get on TV Sunday night.

Thank you!

Lennon

I have a question: after raising 12.5 million dollars, how are they short $5,663? I understand that we all need to volunteer to get out the vote (I did!), but, seriously, are they short of cash?

Are they telling us that the millions given by Gates and the other millionaires has already been blown? They did not even save $6,000 to add to what ever they knew would be needed to fund this date they knew was coming?

I've given cash, I've bought and put up my yard sign, I've spoken with my neighbors, I voted to Approve R74 and now they are saying they're short of cash! I need a drink.

It'd be nice if they answered the phone or had a "how much more we need" chart. Ah well, hope they made their goal.

Wow. Just wow. I can't believe you guys are bitching about them asking for donations in the final days of a tough campaign that has outside organize pouring money into the state to defeat us. Shame on you.

@6 I'm not bitching, I'm asking. I've given Washington United for Marriage hundreds of dollars and dozens of hours and lots of real estate for promoting R74 (at my house and on my body). I just am wondering how they managed to go through $12.5 million. Their ads are beautiful and they've run them quite a bit, but I still don't understand how they went through the money.

I received the same emails you all did.
I thought about it long and hard.
Sorry. I will not give another hundred of my hard earned money to another pussified California transplant group who claims they're fighting "real hard" against those meanies from outside Washington. Again, good luck.
I hope you prove me wrong.

Homo-shek-shuals and loose cash. What could go wrong?

#6 I AM bitching and loudly. I give money, I give time, I speak to my neighbors I put a green yard sign in my green yard and the green sign blends into the greenery and NOW they are asking for only $5,665.00! It's like the poor drunk asking for 50cents to catch the bus back to Auburn. Have the return trip fare BEFORE you leave home. I want civil marriage equality as much as the next American, but I also want fiscal wisdom and planning on the part of the well meaning and worthy organization to which I give my money.

@11 Yeah, it's just like the poor drunk. You're right. Such an insightful analogy. I can't wait to read a book full of your witticisms and bon mots.

Dang. They wanted $500 from me. Couldn't do that, but I gave what I could afford.

I don't understand the bitching. Taking the request at face value, all those millions contributed amounted to $X, and to do what they've done plus continue running ads during prime time this weekend, they need to have collected $X+5663. What the fuck does it matter what $X is in this equation?

It appears many slog readers have never seen a fundraising email before.

If marriage equality passes, the money they got was enough and for that we should be very thankful.

#12 thank you for the personal attack. You big old silly queen you. Now come here and let me hug you deeply into my ample bosom. It's moist in there, be prepared.

Yes, it's a fundraising solicitation, and yes, the premise is phony, and yes, it's still for a good cause, and yes, they'll still need a few bucks for mopping up after Tuesday, and no, I don't blame any 3-year-old for bursting into tears at one more mention of Bronco Bamma ... but it's almost over for this year, signs and portents are favorable, and next week we can go back to bitching about other stuff.
