So true! Yup, yet another reason why Seattlelites love him so much: he's one of them. He's "the black friend" they bring up in conversation to show how progressive they are. Nice try, fools! He may as well be your neighbor in Green Lake or a member of your yoga class. Dude is WHITE.

I've always thought about that - skin colour in the US. I'm not saying where I live isn't racist, just sorta weirder racism, but I never realized why someone who has two parents, one white and one black, can be considered "black" instead of "white".

It should be like in Brazil - 30 levels of varying skin colours to describe someone.

@2 that some racist fucked up thinking you got black folks ain't supposed to live in seattle, in green lake, or take yoga with other white people cause everybody knows if you do any one or combination of those things you're not black anymore.

#2 Fucking right he's one of us, not some backward thinking shit like you, and I say that because I love you. I hate the sin, but love the sinner and you dear heart are one motherfucking sinner. But all will be forgiven if you vote for the White guy running for office. No, the other White guy, not the Radical Religious Fanatic.

@2 I'm not even going to try & parse the weird fuck-upedness behind that thinking.

I did, however, read someone who knows how to clearly & cogently express their thought process:…

He explains the major shift in conservative thinking, where they've gone from agreeing with the facts and arguing over policy, to simply disagreeing w/ facts. You know, those verifiable things that make up reality.

@2 - I'm that black guy. I'm the black guy from the South who grew up in a diverse military-family neighborhood where I was encouraged to be pursue my intellectual interests instead of being forced to pursue the stereotypical things that black people "should be doing". I'm that black guy who other blacks called an "oreo" mainly for that reason. I moved to Seattle for college instead of staying in my state in the South to go to a Historically Black College, state college, or join the military because I knew a west coast university would look good in my career than a small southern state college and got shit for it because I was "turning my back on the system and my 'people'". I'm the black gay guy who lived in areas like Wallingford, Greenlake, Ballard, Fremont, Roosevelt area and the U District who white neighbors love b/c I'm friendly, gracious and very neighborly. They see me work my ass off and work at least 101% and think "yes this is a good guy". I'm the black guy that i've heard other blacks say "oh he's the type of black guy that doesn't scare white people"

@2 - I'm that black guy who's a democrat and when I first discovered Obama's first book in 2006, I understood him because we've walked those same shoes in terms of trying to understand how blackness is an individual thing and have had both worlds, the black world and the non black world try to define how they see us and having to quietly say "fuck you" to the system while still keeping a smile and trying to succeed in life.

But at times, I joke about it like Chris Rock does :)

@3 The one drop rule. It's in the constitution, or the declaration of independence, or some shit. Near the back, I think.

I lolled. Then I realized that the reason this is funny is that people are actually voting against Obama Primarily because of his race. And I felt kinda shitty for finding it funny.

@11 It's still funny. It's funny because those racist white people are too fucking stupid to see the evidence right in front of their noses, and we should all laugh at them.

By the way, you know... we joke about the Christian Talibangelists who want to turn this country into a theocracy, but looking at the Mormon religious obsession with temporal power, I find it amazing that the same xenophobic people who denounce the "rising Islamic Caliphate" just can't see any parallel. Yes, you Christianists, Romney is actually the real radical religious "raghead" (c.f. "sacred underwear") you claim to be so afraid of, who will say and do anything to get the power to rule over you.
