What Makes Me Happy When I'm Sad and Sad When I'm Happy?

Posted by on Fri, Nov 23, 2012 at 1:20 PM

Abraham Lincoln:

It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence, to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: "And this, too, shall pass away." How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction!

This clip does for me what that sentence did for the Eastern king...

Jumping the shark is my "this, too, shall pass."

Funny, you never see shirtless men on television anymore (or, in any media). I can't remember the specifics but something about the psychology of men feeling bad/threatened about their bodies NOT buying products and turning away, whereas making women feel bad/threatened actually makes them buy.

Most depictions of men in media are devoid of handsome, masculine, muscled hunks for this reason. It's now slobs or metrosexuals (both non-threatening to the viewer)

Total tangent, but it just makes me mad.

They had no idea when they made this episode that they were Making History.

And, not in a good way....

Jeezus, this is worse than I remembered. Anybody could have jumped that thing. Tie a ham sandwich to that rope and it clears the shark. Sticking the landing is another matter, but who cares about that?

The best part of this scene is at 1:22, when Henry Winkler does a pretty damn good job of skiing ONTO the beach.

I have "This Too Shall Pass" tattooed on my left shoulder for exactly the reasons Lincoln described.

Talking about jumping the shark has itself jumped the shark.
