The incident took place in Lake Stevens between a soon-to-be divorced SPD officer and his wife, who are still sharing a residence. From the SPD Blotter:
An off-duty Seattle Police Officer was arrested late last night for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) notified Seattle Police Department commanders of the arrest. The employee was booked into Snohomish County Jail for misdemeanor domestic violence assault.
The 41 year old male officer is assigned to the Special Operations Bureau. He has been administratively re-assigned to home pending the on-going investigation.
The incident report (.pdf) states that during an argument, the wife says her soon-to-be-ex-husband "grabbed her shoulders with each hand and violently pushed her back so hard she fell backwards on the floor and she feared that it may escalate to worse." Meanwhile, her husband claims that they'd both been drinking, and fighting, and that "she fell or slipped due to her intoxication level and not from any force from the pushing her back. He said that it seemed so ridiculous that he started to laugh at her."
The report notes that the victim didn't have any marks or apparent injuries on her and "did not appear to be intoxicated."
Here's wishing the couple a safe and speedy divorce.
