But If You Are A Man, No Artist Zine for You

Posted by on Fri, Dec 7, 2012 at 10:17 AM

I noticed something funny in the email announcement of the release of the new, ninth edition of Seattle's artist zine, La Norda Specialo:

Available free in Seattle at: 4Culture, Greg Kucera Gallery, the Hedreen Gallery, near the lockers at the Henry Art Gallery, in women’s bathroom at The Hideout, James Harris Gallery, SEASON and Soil Cooperative Art Gallery.

Turns out there's no shelf for them to sit on in the men's room at the Hideout. Still, it's a funny thing considering this issue is devoted to the implicitly feminist exhibition The Rug Pulled Out From Underneath; You Lie on the Floor at the Hedreen Gallery.

Another way to get them for you Hideout mens:

Available free by mail: please send a SASE envelope to 1128 Poplar Place S. Seattle, WA 98144 (regular business-sized envelope with two 44 cent stamps).

I just happened yesterday to ask a Post Office clerk the stamp price of a standard letter, he told me it is $0.45 now. FYI.

Buy "Forever" stamps, if stamp you must.

Korby Sears once stuck a pretty fun motion-triggered video+kinetic installation in the women's bathroom at The Hideout. Slinked in; pretended to sit; emerged with a lovely rose.

There's simply much more room in there.

Mens' bathrooms are boring, frightful places. Women's bathrooms are always nicer than men's, and not just that they are cleaner, but they often have couches or chairs or stuff. Men don't get a "lounge" in their bathrooms.

The men's bathroom at the Hideout is little more than a closet, but maybe they could stick a shelf above the toilet tank, if there is room around the window behind it.

Also, it's super funny that teh menz can't get a copy. You're really clever, Jen. Hurrr.
