The Seattle Police Department's east precinct headquarters are buffered with barricades halfway into the street to protect themselves from the menace of today's Martin Luther King Jr Day parade. Because if there's one thing the cops need protection from, it's people celebrating the life of a pacifist. Fortunately, the marchers—with an oversize Constitution, an undersized earth, and a marching band blowing out "We Shall Overcome"—proceeded along their parade route without incident:

They look scary.

"It's always something like that going on."and:
"Can't even just hang out and talk to your friends, you know, and sit down and have fun without something like that going on around here."This implies to me that this is a constant problem in the neighborhood.
"I just think that's so sad for them to be doing that, shooting and killing on Martin Luther King Day,"which sounds to me like a lament that these gangbangers can't take a break from their normal activities even on MLK day.
