1. The Seattle Design Center is putting on a full day of comics fun. At 10:30, beloved local cartoonist David Lasky will teach a class about making minicomics. At 1 pm, a panel of local comics luminaries including Ellen Forney, Lasky, Phil & Kaja Foglio, and many others will discuss graphic novels. Then, at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery from 4:30 on, the day's comics experts will join you for a drink at a wrap party. Tickets are available here.
2. Tomorrow night is the Five Alarms Greenwood Lit Crawl—a whole evening of pub-crawl style readings, featuring Morris Stegosaurus, Doug Nufer, Molly Mac, David Lasky, Emily Wittenhagen, and Karen Finneyfrock in venues including Couth Buzzard Books and Naked City Brewery. Greenwood is a good neighborhood for this kind of event; it's more or less a single strip of bars, shops, and venues, and it's not as hyperactive as, say, Belltown or Capitol Hill. 3. If you're looking for a more traditional reading, Jamaica Kincaid is reading at Town Hall tomorrow night. Kincaid is a living legend. Her most recent books are Mr. Potter and See Now Then, but you might know her as the author of Annie John or Lucy. This event is sponsored by the Freedom to Read Foundation, which is an organization that defends the First Amendment when assholes try to ban books in libraries.
