It was one o'clock in the morning on Monday when Seattle police responded to a routine bar-closing call in the University District. They found a man they thought to be thoroughly intoxicated, but they soon found he was in need of more than a routine detox, a police report reveals: The man needed treatment for multiple stab wounds.

Officer Joseph Bender says he patrolling outside club when found the man. He was "on his knees facing me," Officer Bender said, "He was not looking directly at me. His head was down and he looked as if he were trying to raise it up. He had both hands over his abdomen area. I asked the man if he needed assistance... I asked if he wanted to go to detox and he said, 'yes.'"

Given that the man was on all fours, crawling outside of a bar and asking for a ride to the nearest detox clinic, Officer Bender assumed the man was drunk. He leisurely returned to his vehicle to get a flashlight. When he returned to the man and shined his flashlight over his still shuffling form, the officer found "that a good majority of his plaid shirt was soaked in blood," the police report says. The victim lifted his shirt and the officer then noticed "a large laceration/stab wound to the left side of his belly."

When officers asked the man who stabbed him, the barely conscious victim told them "they did." When police asked who "they" were, he responded, "a bunch of kids." When asked "where," he said "right here."

After the Seattle Fire Department had rushed the man to the hospital, Officer Bender inspected the area "right here." He found a few candy wrappers, some crumpled bushes, a trail of blood, and "one can of Four Loco with a bloody paper bag wrapped around it," the Seattle police report says.

The victim was immediately operated on and treated for "multiple stab wounds to the stomach and back," police say. At the time of the police report the man's condition was still unknown.
