The Atlantic noticed that this gay-football-player-coming-out-of-the-closet rumor has developed an interesting twist:

We're in talks with a handful of players who are considering it. There are up to four players being talked to right now and they're trying to be organized so they can come out on the same day together. It would make a major splash and take the pressure off one guy. It would be a monumental day if a handful or a few guys come out.

I suppose you could make a case that one player coming out would make a bigger splash, but I'm all for this four-players-at-once idea. Assuming that they're from different teams, it would broaden the discussion to four cities at once, and it would keep homophobes and bigots from branding one team as "the gay team." This is the most excited I've ever been about football in my whole life.
