This week’s short is “Famadihana,” a spooky little film by Devin McDermott and Ethan Folk—McDermott created and performed the dance, and Folk photographed and edited the performance (The Antlers provided the music). McDermott is a dancer who has worked with Alice Gosti’s Spaghetti Co. (Gosti currently has a show at Hedreen Gallery—”Yellow Fish // Epic Durational Performance Festival”), and Folk is a filmmaker who is interested in the “procedural aspects of rituals pertaining to death.” The elements of the short: The dancing dead woman, the cigarettes as incense, the flashes of color, that menacing axe in the back.
