On January 30, 2008, Rey Davis-Bell walked into this building (then a cheesesteak restaurant) and gunned down its owner, Degene Barecha Dashasa. The Ethiopian immigrant was not the first owner of this business to be murdered. On July 30, 2003, Troy Hackett, another owner of the cheesesteak restaurant, was shot to death in his car by an unknown person for unknown reasons. The murder happened nine blocks from this building.
