As you may remember, on August 27th, 2013, I made an open call for photo entries for people's WORST TATTOOS. I did this because a generous offer had been made by the professionals at Seattle Skin and Laser, to partner with The Stranger and give away one free tattoo removal.

One entry that did not win maybe should have.

I received many letters from people who wanted to donate to help Ashley. Even Joe (winner, with "Pentagrams on Forehead") offered to split his win to with her.

"Hi, I'm Ashley. I got this tattoo when I was 17, soon after I had my first child (you could say I was a bit of a troubled teen). I let a "family member" tattoo me. The motor was powered by k'nex and the "needle" was fishing wire.

I say "family member" because the man that tattooed me ended up hurting me and my family in every way you can possibly think (sexually, physically, mentally). Having his handwriting on me makes me sick. Getting this tattoo removed would mean the world to me. I'm no longer a victim, I'm definitely a survivor."

In addition, from Ashley's sister: "I am Ashley's sister, and feel that she should win, simply on the back story. Long story short, I am her older sister, and I was in a very abusive relationship for over 12 years with the man who gave her the tattoo. In the interim, he was abusing her as a child. The tattoo is a constant reminder of him. My sister is an amazing woman who will be happy for whoever wins, I am proud to call her my sister."
