This January brings There There—a theater piece written by Kristen Kosmas (also one of the show's two performers), directed by Paul Willis, designed by Paul Ksander—to On the Boards and I can't fucking wait.

(Full disclosure: Kosmas is an old friend of mine, from Seattle's solo performance-art scene of the early '90s. Even better, she's one of my favorite theater-makers. Her solo show again, which I saw in 1995 or so, remains one of the best theater experiences I've had.)

The plot synopsis for Kosmas' forthcoming There There:

Christopher Walken falls off a ladder in Russia and is unable to perform his Chekov-inspired solo show. Karen, who apparently proofread the script once, is asked to go on in Walken’s place. A precarious bilingual performance duet ensues between Karen and her Russian interpreter, Leo. There There is a wildly unpredictable theatrical roller coaster about being the completely wrong person in the totally wrong place at the exact wrong time saying and doing all the most wrong things.

Kosmas and co. performed There There earlier this year in NYC, and the New York Times loved it. Owing to the set design, the four shows at On the Boards have more-limited-than-usual seating. Full info and tickets here.
