Slog tipper Rebecca noticed that the sample sentence for today's Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day comes from The Stranger. The word is "pococurante," meaning "indifferent, nonchalant," and here's the word used in a sentence:

[Anonymous restaurant reviewers] lumbered in as any other diner would, assessing astutely yet nonchalantly the performance of the coat-check girl, the host, the bringers of water, and the offerings of wine; the service was scrutinized while maintaining an entirely pococurante front.

That sentence comes from Bethany Jean Clement's excellent 2012 piece "The End of Anonymity." You can read the sentence in context by clicking on this link. Thanks to Rebecca for the tip, and thanks to Bethany for making the rest of us monosyllabic schmucks look smart by association.
