Mediate's Andrew Kirell says that Glenn Beck was critical of his own 2009-2011 tenure on Fox News last night:
"I remember it as an awful lot of fun, and that I made an awful lot of mistakes, and I wish I could go back and be more uniting in my language because I think I played a role, unfortunately, in helping tear the country apart,” he said to [Fox host and White Santa Supremacist Megyn] Kelly. “And it’s not who we are. I didn’t realize how really fragile the people were. I thought we were kind of a little more in it together.”
Okay, that whole statement is riddled with bullshit. Let's take it apart, piece by piece.
"I remember it as an awful lot of fun..." Actually, this opening part might be true. I bet Beck was having fun running around in dopey costumes and setting off armies of pension-funded white people to rally in public squares. He has always enjoyed himself, and he continues to seem to enjoy himself.
"I made an awful lot of mistakes, and I wish I could go back and be more uniting in my language..." Bullshit! Beck still forecasts the end of America at the hands of Democrats on a regular basis. A contrite Beck would admit that his predictions are hyperbole, and that the world won't end if Democrats stay in power. He'll never, ever do that. And he honestly can't believe he made a lot of mistakes, because he has never once appeared contrite, or admitted specific errors. If he wants to air regrets, he has to be more specific about errors that he's made. There's none of that here, and he continues to make the same mistakes. You can't ask for forgiveness in the middle of a heist.
"I didn’t realize how really fragile the people were. I thought we were kind of a little more in it together..." Bullshit! Beck, who is himself about as fragile as they come, has had an us-against-them philosophy for as long as I've followed him. His whole schtick is puffing up straw men and then urging his viewers to hate the boogiemen he just constructed before their eyes. Beck believes he's fighting an elaborate conspiracy to hand America over to a secret organization trying to achieve a new world order. He has repeatedly Godwinned himself by comparing President Obama and Democrats to Nazis. He's also accused those same supposed Nazis, paradoxically, of wanting to turn America into communist Russia. He accused Occupy Wall Street of being a plot to destroy Israel. After the last election, Beck told his followers to "get the hell out of the east[ern US]" and "find like-minded people," and to buy land and guns to defend themselves from the government.
Does any of this sound like a man who thinks we're "in it together?" Does that sound like someone who is aware of his own mistakes? No. It sounds like more bullshit pouring forth from America's first and foremost bullshit factory. I can't believe this statement of Beck's is getting traction on news sites as something real. It's fake. Just like everything Beck ever does, it's base hucksterism, coated in a thick layer of 100% grade-A bullshit.
