A few years ago, St. Vincent stuck her finger in the electrical socket that is David Byrne and now she's got Einstein hair and a sound that is similarly wild and genius.

These days, reprising her solo act, St. Vincent is giving me everything I need. She’s got technical prowess in spades. Her catalog is full of complex yet still pop melodies that can coax lazy ears into something with a bit more depth. She’s got some robot/alien hybrid dance moves, an immaculately styled ensemble, and more emotional ferocity than a teen drama on the WB.

I'm not gonna lie—I'm no expert on the St. Vincent repertoire. I can tell you that last night she definitely played that one same song off her new record that she did on The Colbert Report, which is probably the single? I could hear the tendency toward taking risks in certain songs more than others, but St. Vincent is the consummate pro. She knows how to infuse her older tracks with the new tricks she's learned, creating a seamless, flawless set. She brought the house down, and looked spectacular doing it.

More photos after the jump.
