Sculpture Park Gets Head: Installation has begun to place Jaume Plensa's monumental pixilated head sculpture on Seattle's waterfront at the Olympic Sculpture Park. This is not the Spanish artist's first oversized head of a young girl with her eyes closed; another stands on the Albright Knox's campus in Buffalo. (That one is 20 feet tall, SAM's is more than twice that.) Construction is expected to be finished by "late spring." Part of the sculpture park's bike path is closed for the duration; the pedestrian walkway remains open. We remain skeptical. The sculpture is a gift from Barney A. Ebsworth, the Hunts Point collector/Build-a-Bear investor.

New York Copies Seattle: Bookish published a profile of the organizer of a Silent Reading Party in New York City:

Jamie Burns, who organized the event, sat by the front door with a sign that read, “Event Organizer—Ask Me Anything,” so as not to interrupt the experience...Pulled aside, she explained how she was inspired by Christopher Frizzelle, the editor of Seattle newspaper The Stranger. “He organizes silent reading parties there,” she explains. “It seemed like an event I would want to go to, and there wasn’t a similar one that existed [in New York], so I decided to organize one.”

Drone Henry: Jerry Bruckheimer says his plan for Top Gun 2 involves Tom Cruise facing off against drones. Bruckheimer says that like John Henry fighting the steam drill, the question of the sequel is "are the pilots obsolete because of drones[?] Cruise is going to show them that [pilots are] not obsolete."

By Popular Demand: We've been waiting forever for a book of the spectacular, strange photography of Seattle classic Alice Wheeler. Finally! Minor Matters Books announced today that books by Wheeler and early hip hop and graffiti photographer Lisa Leone are both in the hopper. The way Minor Matters works is that 500 people have to pre-purchase a book (every book is a flat $50) in order for the book to be published. It's crowdsourced publishing, but original curation and book design are by Michelle Dunn Marsh, a longtime presence in photo publishing who's now director of the Photo Center Northwest. (Today is also the deadline to purchase Joseph Park's Prizmism book, and Larry Fink's Kindred Spirits.)
