According to police, an armed man "reportedly wearing lots of makeup, women's clothing and a brunette wig" walked into a bank near East Madison Street this morning and demanded money, then fled in a silver car.

After a search, police found the car overturned in the Madison Park area—seen at right—and confronted the man.

SPD's Blotter says he refused to drop a knife, "at least one officer opened fire," and the suspect subsequently died from his injuries.

Per SPD's new regulations, which went into effect following a fatal shooting by police in January, a team from the Office of Professional Accountability should be on site immediately.
