Somebody with just enough time on his/her hands has recorded every song on Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band's classic 1969 avant-rock double LP Trout Mask Replica at the same time. The results are frightfully chaotic, but clarity begins to creep in during the last minute or so. If you listen closely, you can discern myriad bits of Beefheart's essence swirling in the maelstrom. Heard without any context, it sounds like a sort of free-jazz/feral-ambient opus that ESP-Disk might have released in 1970. Back in 2010, someone did something similar with disc 1 of The Essential Billy Joel (oxymoron alert), making his loathsome hits somehow more tolerable.
