Grand Central

You know all those 1970s dramas that focused on a subculture in such a detail-obsessed, journalistic way that they felt almost like journalism with a patina of fiction slathered on top? Turns out they didn’t disappear, they just moved to France. Grand Central follows a thoroughly unlikable protagonist named Gary who gets a job working at a nuclear power plant. Gary is a drifter who gets swept up into a romantic triangle, and he also risks public safety in order to pick up more shifts at the plant. The drama is fairly rote, but some of the power plant scenes are harrowing and unforgettable. (PAUL CONSTANT)

Grand Central plays today at the Harvard Exit at 7 pm.
