While I was watching the funding promo for BitterSweet, a proposed documentary about the mighty R&B singer Ms. Sugar Pie DeSanto, I came across a link to a contemporary version of Sugar Pie and Etta James' MASSIVE soul single "In The Basement." The contemporary version is sung by vocalist Martina McBride and also features Kelly Clarkson. The track is on McBride's recent album, Everlasting, an collection of '60s hits, and...um, one Fred Neil song, "A Little Bit Of Rain." Anyway, I dunno if Slog Out™ is hella familiar with the original version of "In The Basement," but here it is AGAIN. Now, the remake...

I know I shouldn't expect much from the Young Country, but McBride's take is just so tepid. I really have no idea why anyone thinks they oughta take a run at ANYTHING Etta James touched without sounding like a pratty pratty prat prat.
