So we were warned about #March4Marriage, the anti-gay-marriage protest taking place in Washington DC today. But Michael K. Lavers at the Washington Blade reports that turnout was very low, and that speakers talked about how same sex marriage is winning:

“We are falling behind in the struggle,” said Kansas Congressman Tim Huelskamp during the National Organization for Marriage’s March for Marriage that took place on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. “Those who seek to destroy marriage by redefining it to mean anything — and thus mean nothing, are hard at work.”

Many of the estimated 2,000 people from across the country held NOM signs that defined marriage as between a man and a woman.

The most these bigots could draw—after using pretty much every weapon at their disposal—was a couple thousand people. This was supposed to be a national-scale demonstration. To put things in perspective, a regional march for equality in San Francisco last year drew 3,000 people. Or to compare with another national-scale event in Washington DC, the 2009 National Equality March brought more than 200,000 people in support of LGBT equality. This is utterly embarrassing for NOM and other marriage equality protesters.
