Some folks are unhappy that the actor playing the trans parent in Amazon's Transparent—Jeffrey Tambor—isn't trans. I can certainly appreciate their frustration; I recall being really, really annoyed that William Hurt played the lead gay character in the film version of Kiss of the Spider Woman way, way back in 1985. (He was terrible; he won an Oscar.) But I have to say that the preview looks... kinda great. That last moment of the trailer? Very moving, very true. And setting the trans issue aside for a second: Why do all shows about families having feelings have to feature wealthy families? It's as if TV writers, show runners, studio heads collectively operate under the assumption that only wealthy people have time to sit around and process their feelings about, say, dad coming out as trans.
