A flower basket in West Seattle that hasnt been stolen... yet.
This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things: You know those huge potted hanging flowers they put on main thoroughfares to entice you to shop? Someone keeps stealing them in West Seattle. It's a big neighborhood mystery, but it might involve a man and a ladder. If you've seen a super-gigantic hanging flower pot (or six) in some guy's house and you know they're not his, the West Seattle Junction Association would love to hear from you. "Please consider that these are very large flower baskets. They are not typically seen in residential areas and would probably stand out if displayed," the junction associate director says in a letter posted on West Seattle Blog.

Do You Think It Was It the Same Person Who Kidnapped These People's Seahawks Garden Gnome? Yeah, someone kidnapped someone's Seahawks garden gnome, went on vacation with it, photographed it at Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and the Golden Gate Bridge, and then returned it, with photos. Hahahahaha.

Our State Supreme Court: Is really pissed at our state legislature. Like, really pissed.

Yes, you saw this picture yesterday, but can we just look at it together for a moment?

  • In case you missed it on Slog yesterday, this what homelessness looks like in Seattle right now.

Looks Like a Dangerous Spot to Live, Huh? That's because it is. A week ago today, a (presumably) homeless person fell off that ledge near the blue tent and the next day he died. The context of this accident? "Under Mayor Ed Murray, the city has nearly doubled the rate of homeless encampment evictions, a crackdown that homeless advocates say has displaced people trying to find a safe place to sleep."

Retail Sales of State-Licensed Weed in Washington Topped $12 Million Earlier This Week: The SeattlePI reports there are now "55 fully licensed retail outlets." Still just one in Seattle.

Two F-18 Hornets crashed into the Pacific Ocean last night.

Neither of the Jets that Crashed into the Pacific Last Night Have Been Recovered Yet, But One of the Pilots Has Been Rescued: There doesn't seem to be much information yet, but the New York Times is reporting the one pilot "was rescued and taken back to the carrier Carl Vinson to receive medical attention. Search and rescue teams were still looking for the pilot of the second plane."

This isnt happening. :(

Plans for a Swimming Pool Barge on the Waterfront: Have been nixed. "At least for now."

What's Amazon Replacing the Hurricane Cafe With? Well, they submitted two plans, so we don't know for sure, but one of them is a 24-story office tower, and the other one is... a 24-story office tower! So I'm thinking there'll probably a 24-story office tower, with either an 8-story secondary building or a 6-story secondary building. "It’s unclear why Amazon submitted two different sets of plans, and the company didn’t return calls for comment." Because of course they didn't.

Two "Apparently Inebriated Men" Broke Through a Fence Yesterday on Capitol Hill: And promptly "fell into an open sewer construction hole."

A West Seattle Woman Who Was Possibly on Drugs Allegedly Broke Into a Guy's House and, Uh, Did Things to Him While He Slept: "A 28-year-old woman accused of breaking into a West Seattle man’s home and forcing herself on him as he slept has been charged with rape."

Did You Know that 2,900 People in King County Every Year Move to LA? What is wrong with them? Or maybe the question is, what is wrong with the 3,400 Los Angelenos who move here every year? That's why Seattle increasingly seems like we're becoming LA: Because we are increasingly becoming LA. By the way, I'm from LA.

This is what A Chorus Line at the 5th looks like. I could watch this guy dance forever.

Maria Semple Loved A Chorus Line at the 5th Avenue Theatre Last Night: It's polished to jewel-tone, mid-'70s perfection. The director is David Bennett, who really ought to direct everything at 5th Avenue Theatre. Novelist Maria Semple sat next to me at the show last night and kept saying "This is so good, this is so good," and, as we were leaving, she said again, "That was so good." If you love A Chorus Line, you ought to treat yourself.
