A series of strong storms will begin impacting the Pacific Northwest over the next couple of days, each bringing the opportunity for incredibly heavy precipitation through this weekend.

The predicted rainfall and snowfall totals across the region...could result in flash flooding, landslides, and possibly even avalanches in the mountains where the heaviest snowfall is anticipated.

According to the National Weather Service, the peak of Mount Rainier could see almost ten feet of snow between today and Sunday.

Exhibit B: A blog post by Northwest weather celebrity Cliff Mass. Key sentences:

[A] huge northward push of moisture is occurring in the central Pacific and a tendril of it is moving westward towards us. It has our name on it....[W]hen that moisture is forced to rise by our regional terrain, there will be lots of precipitation.

Let me make clear...this is NOT going to be a record event. But it will be the wettest period since last winter.
