For Now, Your Commute Is Going to Get Worse: It was once possible to drive from Everett to Seattle during rush hour traffic in one hour. But that was 2011. Last year, according to new state data, average peak commute time grew to 82 minutes.

But State Predicts Declining Traffic: In 2013, the state forecast that vehicle traffic would grow steadily ad infinitum, careening off the charts. Now, a revised forecast predicts that traffic will level off, and then slowly fall, beginning in 2019. This means the state may be shifting away from its "build now, pay later" approach to highway expansions, suggests Sightline's Clark Williams-Derry.
