Watch the neighborhood for moving trucks, people! Hopeful Seattle City Council members need to live in the district they want to represent by next Thursday in order to get on the ballot. So, if anyone is angling to run in a district where they don't already live (like, it seemed for a hot second, socialist Jess Spear?), they need to be on the move.

The voter-approved charter amendment creating this new council election system says candidates running for one of the seven districts have to live in the district for which they run at least 120 days before they file for office. The deadline for filing is May 15 and next Thursday, January 15, is 120 days before that.

Hopefully, anybody who's going to talk at us about how invested they are in the wellbeing of their district already lives there. But, sometimes BFFs live in the same district or council members and their campaigns send mixed signals about what they're up to. In an unprecedented year when every single council seat is up for grabs, anything could happen.
