I don't have too much to add regarding yesterday's passing of '60s teen queen, Ms. Lesley Gore; she was a pop icon and, as I began to write this bit, she'd already been quite well eulogized. BUT, for those few of y'all Slog Outters who may have never heard of Ms. Gore, in the early '60s and before she'd graduated high school, she recorded a clutch of classic pop songs. Everyone should know her smash hit, "It's My Party," and her string of hits that followed: "Judy's Turn to Cry," "You Don't Own Me," and "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows." In all, her brief but heavy chart run was impressive.

As a fan of '60s teener/pop songs since I was a kid, I was familiar with most of Gore's records early on, and, now, hearing them as an adult I'm still stuck how well her entire catalog has held up. I think her single side "No Matter What You Do," a track co-written by Mike Post and produced by Jack Nitzsche, might be my most fave.

It's interesting, too, tho' her material was tailored to AM radio, her producers DID let some fuzz guitar slip in to the mix. Also in that mix, perhaps, they let a knowing drug nod with her slighly-delic sunshine pop title track from an unreleased 1967 album, Magic Colors.
