Can you hear her roar? Bertha's got less than 14 feet of concrete to go until the machine reaches the pit. Washington State Department of Transportation

Whoa, Bertha is working hard. By 7 a.m. this morning, the machine had bored through three feet of the rescue pit's 20-foot wall, and now the Washington State Department of Transportation says Bertha's only got a little less than 14 feet to go.

Does this mean everything is going to be okay? No, it does not mean everything is going to be okay. There's still a lot of repair work to do, which you can read about here. And don't forget about the 8,000 more feet of tunneling that lies ahead.

We'll keep you posted on Bertha's progress.

(Also, why didn't you guys love our Pink Floyd reference in that first post? The news staff worked really hard on the part that went: Bertha can't have any pudding if she doesn't eat her concrete. It was really good.)
