Back Alley Beat is a hopeful new monthly garage rock, freakbeat, and psychedelic dance night at a relatively new South End bar, Lucky Liquor. I think, as this night is still sorta jelling, the resident selectors are still a loose, rotating buncha record nerds, but tonight's lineup features the high-waisted, foot-stompin' selector mysteriously only known as Strawberry, the ever-present rhythm AND blues selector Stevie Dee, plus the mightiest of ALL the mighties, George Gell. GODDAMN, looking at tonight's airtight lineup, I know tonight's set lists will be composed of the most pounding, rawest of records recorded by the most dim-witted, knuckle-draggin' no-talented teenagers of the '60s! Uh, you know, like killer Back from the Grave-style '60s punk!!

As for the bar, Lucky Liquor, it's kinda new. I've been a couple times now, and tho' it's a bit of a car ride south (of the Flight Museum), it strikes a good balance of cool and casual, almost like a clubhouse (the food rates also). Mostly tho', it feels like old Seattle; I think the vibe can be maintained, as it's well past the reach of Cap Hill creepers AND working-class Georgetown refuges. Anyways, I think this is the second Back Alley Beat, but I think Lucky Liquor has hosted a few cool reggae nights, including the monthly Bovver Reggae Beatdown, as well as some live band action. There is a lot of promise here.
