Mayor Ed Murray announced today he'll issue an executive order next week prohibiting all "work-related and city-funded" travel to Indiana and will ask all city departments to review their contracts "to identify if there are any contracts the city has with businesses headquartered in Indiana."

In case you haven't heard, Republicans in Indiana pushed a bill—SB101—that makes it easier for businesses to refuse service to gay couples based on religious beliefs. The state's Republican governor signed it Thursday, despite pushback from advocates, businesses who don't actually want to discriminate and worry the bill will hurt tourism, and the N.C.A.A., which is based in Indianapolis and will hold Final Four games there.

“Indiana’s S.B. 101 doesn’t reflect the values of our city," Murray said in a statement this morning. "Seattle has been a leader in the fight to protect civil rights and ensure equality for all people – no matter who you are, or who you love. This is why I am ordering that none of our taxpayer dollars should go toward supporting this discriminatory law. To those in Indiana today who are working hard in the fight for equality – know that Seattle stands with you as you continue your efforts to end discrimination and protect civil rights for everyone.”

San Francisco's mayor also banned city employee travel to Indiana because of this law. Good job, guys!
