Median Cost of a Seattle Home Is More Than Half a Million Dollars: That's an almost $100,000 increase over the last year, and the biggest jump in the past five years. "The number of available homes for sale has been at historic lows in recent months," the Seattle Times reports, "helping drive up prices." Insert boilerplate pro-density rhetoric here.

(Folks in the northeast part of the city have one question about some of those bike lanes, and the lack of connection between them.)

Dangerous Oil Trains Must Be Fixed Now: That's according to the National Transportation Safety Board, which says that after a spate of oil train derailments and explosions, "a decade-long retrofit timeline" preferred by the rail industry is unacceptable. "The longer we wait, the more we expose the public to the problems of these cars," said NTSB chairman Christopher Hart, reports the AP.

Brontosaurus Is a Legit Dinosaur Name Again! "In a new study," reports Vocativ, "paleontologists confirm that the 30-ton sauropod of Flintstones fame is both a distinct genus and species, ending a long argument. It’s an exciting day for dinosaur enthusiasts everywhere—stalwarts who have suffered too long under the oppressive reign of the long-necked Apatosaurus." Yass!
