Last night saw longtime late-night host David Letterman saying farewell to the airwaves and preparing to settle down into well-deserved retirement. For reasons that surprised no one, Letterman chose the Foo Fighters as the final guests on the final episode of The Late Show with David Letterman, which has been on CBS since 1993.

You may recall that Letterman had open heart surgery back in 2000, and that the Foo Fighters canceled a tour to herald his return to hosting duties after a five-week recovery period by playing "Everlong" on his first night back. They reprised their 1997 single yesterday evening as a montage of Dave's greatest moments rolled on-screen.

And it was... okay? I guess?

Aside from the fact that I inherently mistrust anyone who's a Foo Fighters fan, Letterman had the group on air for an entire week back in October in advance of their latest release, Sonic Highways. The album was accompanied by an 8-part HBO documentary, nine different covers, and an exhaustive world tour.

I wish Dave bon voyage and all, but I don't think anyone needs this much Dave Grohl in their lives. Then again, I know I'm in the minority.

Judge for yourself below.
