Donate blood in North Seattle or downtown to help survivors of the Aurora Bridge crash. Bloodworks Northwest

Bloodworks Northwest is putting out an emergency call for blood donors to aid victims of this morning's Aurora Bridge crash. Four people were reportedly killed and 12 critically injured. Bloodworks says they need blood components for 40 injured people and to replenish supply.

“To avoid a crisis for the local blood supply we’re asking donors who have not donated recently to schedule an appointment as soon as they can at one of our twelve centers, or to find a mobile drive in their community close to where they live or work,” James P. AuBuchon, president of Bloodworks, said in a statement. “There is a special need for O-positive and O-negative blood types.”

Bloodworks has donation centers in North Seattle and downtown. You can also call (1-800-398-7888) or schedule an appointment online. The centers are open until 8 p.m. today and between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. tomorrow.

UPDATE: The website's appointment making tool is loading very slowly (likely because it's overwhelmed, which is probably good news. Also, the phone number listed above gets a recording saying that the number doesn't exist. However, the Central Seattle location is at 921 Terry Ave., at Madison, about a block away from the Sorrento Hotel. The local number for this location is 206-292-6500. The site also says walk-ins are welcome. Other area donation centers addresses and phone numbers can be found here.

UPDATE: The downtown Seattle location is fully booked today and tomorrow (yay!), but you can still schedule a blood donation for Monday. The need will be just as urgent!
