Remember that fundraiser we held for the Planned Parenthood clinic in Pullman that was the victim of a terrorist attack? Remember all that money you helped us raised? Well, the clinic is now opening a temporary health center on Monday. The news comes via email:

On Monday, October 12 we will open our temporary health center at 745 N Grand Ave in Pullman, WA. Patients will again be able to access birth control, STD testing and treatment, cancer screenings, and annual exams from their health care provider of choice. The temporary health center opens a month after extremists firebombed the family planning center on King Street in Pullman.

The support and response from our community has been overwhelmingly positive. We estimate the cost to rebuild the Pullman health center, including insurance deductibles, necessary security upgrades, and the temporary facility, to be about $250,000 out of pocket. To date, you have helped us raise over $140,000 in just the first month since this attack. Thank you! We need to raise an additional $110,000 to reopen the Pullman health center.

This was an attack on all of us, not just Pullman, and you sent a strong message that we won’t be bulliedand we will not stop providing the health care our community needs. Violence is unacceptable, and we are committed to keeping our students and our community safe.

Planned Parenthood is honored to partner with fearless community advocates, including the Smith-Barbieri Progressive Fund, to rally our supporters. Don Barbieri, Washington State University regent, and his partner Sharon Smith, women’s health advocate, are stepping forward to provide a dollar-for-dollarmatch up to $20,000 dedicated to reopening the Pullman health center. Please see their website at:https://www.smith-barbieri.com/spotlight/ to learn more about this effort.

Thank you for being a strong supporter of expert health care, honest education, and fearless advocacy! We can’t do it without you.

Happy Friday, everyone.
