On election night, there were only 889 votes separating incumbent Council Member Bruce Harrell from his challenger, Tammy Morales, for a seat representing District 2 in southeast Seattle. By last night, that number had shrunk to 776. Today, Harrell leads Morales by just 530 votes.

In the other obscenely close race of the year—West Seattle's District 1—Lisa Herbold is gaining on Shannon Braddock with only 387 votes separating them in the latest count.

According to the latest numbers from King County Elections, 4,161 ballots remain uncounted in District 2 and 5,605 ballots in District 1*. With such narrow leads and these later ballots trending toward more progressive candidates, these races are definitely not over.

Other races are decided, though. In District 4, covering northeast Seattle, Michael Maddux conceded to Rob Johnson today. In District 3, covering Capitol Hill and the Central District, Kshama Sawant has extended her lead over Pamela Banks to 10 percentage points. In the race for citywide Position 8, Tim Burgess remains about 16,500 votes and 12 percent ahead of his challenger (and Sawant ally) Jon Grant. Grant has not conceded.

Citywide, about 36,000 ballots remain uncounted*. The next results are expected tonight at 7 p.m.

UPDATE: The 7 p.m. count made things even closer(!), with Morales just 378 votes behind Harrell and Herbold 104 votes behind Braddock. At least 2,606 votes are left to count in District 2 and 3,484 in District 1. The latest results are at the bottom of this post. The next drop is scheduled for Monday at 4:30 p.m.
