Homelessness Is Personal for Deputy Mayor Hyeok Kim: Community meetings in Ballard and Magnolia are now notorious for tearing down public officials who refuse to kick homeless people out of certain neighborhoods. But it was only at a neighborhood meeting last month in West Seattle—where those who attended, perhaps, were more sympathetic to the homeless—when Deputy Mayor Hyeok Kim told the room about her own family's struggle with homelessness. It was an emotional moment. "I was crying like a baby,” Kim told Seattle Times reporter Daniel Beekman.
