You probably know Jeffrey Eugenides as the author of Middlesex, which was one of the happiest freak accidents in recent literary history. (A best-selling, award-winning novel about the life and times of an intersex person? Yes, please!) Almost a decade later, hes finally written his follow-up, and its nothing like Middlesex. Instead, The Marriage Plot is an old-fashioned, Austen-esque love story about a woman torn between two men, but its been updated with an invigorating dose of feminism, a handful of pharmaceuticals, and intelligent, interesting main characters who dont just swoon and pout.
