‘The Adventures of Tintin’

Let’s admit this right up front: Motion-capture-animation faces are rubbery and not emotive. But that’s the only strike against Tintin, which turns out to be the most fun Steven Spielberg has had with a movie in decades. It takes a minute or two to adjust to the animation, but once you do, you’re whizzing around the globe in a series of dizzying action sequences that will smack you in the face with the awesome stick until you’re staggering out of the theater in a blissful state of cinematic satisfaction. No really, don't do it. If you've loved the books you're going to hate the film, it's been americanised - the plot, what little remains from the books is simply a way to get from explosion to explosion. I don't remember Tintin ever destroying an entire town just to get a clue. It was horrible, just horrible. If you must see it don't waste the money on the 3d version.

Disagree @1. Yes the plot has been completely changed, and there are too many action sequences squeezed in just to milk the 3D thing.

HOWEVER...

This is not a junk movie. The characters have depth (Captain Haddock in particular), the plot changes are creative, and most importantly, they've captured the really unreserved spirit of Tintin adventures. Tintin never thinks twice about bounding off halfway around the world chasing some crazy adventure. He never flies back home to take a break and think things over. He climbs aboard a ship or steals a seaplane or jumps on a camel and runs to meet the story head on. Spielberg's gift to the Tintin character is that he made no attempt to reel him in or make him more "realistic".

It may be true that they should not have made a Tintin movie in the first place, but seeing as they DID, Spielberg did a lot of things very right. Plenty enough to warrant seeing it.

I can't get over the uncanny valley look it has going on. Creepy.

You could replace all mentions of Tintin with Indiana Jones and it would still be just as accurate a description. Maybe I'll just watch one or all of those again instead and save my $20.

This Tintin fan saw it, in 3D, and LOVED it. So there you go.

This fucking movie drives up in a black van, grabs you and stuffs you into a bag, then unceremoniously dumps your ass right in the middle of the uncanny valley. It's horrible.

BF is a digital artist ... and he actually found the CG faces no problem. A few moments here and there, but that was it. He's also a Tintin fan from childhood, and he really enjoyed it.
