Anyone familiar with David Schmaders Straighthis one-man play about gay conversion therapyor his work on the gilded turd Showgirls already knows that hes one of Seattles most treasured monologuists. (Full disclosure: He is also a Stranger staffer.) But Schmaders latest solo piece, A Short-Term Solution to a Long-Term Problem, eclipses both. Here, Schmader takes public a mind-fuck hes been privately tackling for more than a decade: how to juggle new love, personal crisis, and national tragedy simultaneously (think a modern-day love story involving TB on the Hindenburg, costarring Mormons). Its a story thats more personal than Straight and even funnier than Showgirls. (Richard Hugo House, 1634 11th Ave, www.hugohouse.org, 8 pm, $20) by Cienna Madrid
